"The historical DOC of Colares, although nowadays one of the smallest in the region, used to produce a famous and appreciated wine..."

The vineyards of Estremadura by being near the Atlantic Ocean, allow the breeze that blows from the sea across the slopes to slow the ripening of the grapes. The historical DOC of Colares, although nowadays one of the smallest in the region, used to produce a famous and appreciated wine. The red wine of Colares is made out of Ramisco grapes, that grow nowhere else but in Colares. The white Colares based on Malvasia grape, is believed to be the better wine of the region because it ripens much easier. Growing wine on the sandy soil of this area is extremely difficult but gives unique features to the wines. Carcavelos wine is very difficult to find on the market, which means that soon DOC Colares and Carcavelos may disappear. So this is your opportunity to taste the most French of all Portuguese wines! Due to the proximity of Lisbon there is not just Colares Wine to be tasted in this area but a whole range of Portuguese wines. Enjoy!
